2012 Petite Colline
The wine smells like dark cedar and dense chocolate with high tones of sweet milk chocolate and espresso beans. Baked Toffee and salted pecans round out this exceptional wine.
Our second release of the “Petite Colline” Minnesota white wine blend is just a little different from our first offering in 2011. The wine has similar fruit notes of peach and pear, with a note of orange peel or marmalade. There is also a veritable “bouquet” of white flowers: orange blossom, jasmine, honeysuckle, lavender and rose, which all together give a pleasant almost “soapy” aroma that somehow reminds me of my dear maternal Grandmother’s house in summertime.
In the mouth, the wine is very fresh and crisp with a perfect balance of racy acidity and just a touch of sweetness; in fact this wine is a tad drier than the Gold medal-winning 2011 wine. It is also a bit leaner and tighter but I feel in the long run will exhibit a more focused structure and lend itself to food pairings better than its previous incarnation.
