2015 Petite Colline
Named after the Hillside the vineyard is planted on, Petite Colline is our Minnesota Blend. 8 different grape varietals were used in this year’s blend. The Edelweiss and Brianna grapes are the very first grapes we pick. And in 2015 we picked them the last week of August. Ironically, the Saint Pepin grapes were picked the day we blessed the fruit. The La Crescent grapes add a Riesling style oiliness to wine and bright aromatics.
11% of the wine, the Prairie Star, was fermented and aged in an older Puncheon (double sized barrel) to add creaminess and complexity. Each lot of grapes is harvested and fermented separately, with the final blend coming together in early winter. Gently filtered prior to bottling, we bottle the wine early in order to preserve its bright and fresh nature.
In the glass the wine has aromas of peaches and pears, tropical notes of pineapple and mango, and wonderful floral nuances of apple blossom and rose petals. In the mouth the wine is a delight, fresh, crisp, clean and intense with an edge of acidity balanced nicely against a slightly rounded and clean finish.
