2013 Estate Marquette
2013 marks our first ever 100% Marquette made entirely from grapes off our Chankaska Estate. We have two blocks of Marquette here at Chankaska totally 1.5 acres. In 2013, we picked less than two tons, so this wine is very scarce. Less than 100 cases were made and so this limited release was only made available to our Wine Circle members.
The grapes were picked on September 14 at the height of ripeness and in the early morning hours. We chose to ferment it separately from the first day and after almost four weeks of fermentation, it was gently pressed off. After almost a year in barrel, we bottled the Estate Marquette in August of 2014. What we have might be the finest example of Marquette in the Midwest.
The nose is enticing with dried rose petals and ripe black cherries. On the entry, layers of Santa Rosa Plums and rhubarbs fold nicely into a milk chocolate finish. Drink this wine with roasted wild game or duck. Enjoy over the next five to seven years.
