2012 Zinfandel
This 2012 Zinfandel is similar, but not the same as our 2011 version. Either way, either wine is a sure crowd-pleaser, and possibly our fastest-selling dry red wine. It is sourced from the same circa 1896 Ancient Vine vineyard in Lodi, California. These head-trained old vines continue to produce year after year, maybe not as much quantity, but every year amazing and pure Zinfandel quality.
Overall, the grapes in 2012 were a bit riper than in 2011, and thus, this wine has more developed flavors, and slightly higher alcohol content. It is a bolder and bigger wine, but still shows the softness and complexity that only these old vines can produce, with plenty of rich lasting flavors and a measure of decadent pleasure that few grapes can give like Zinfandel can.
The flavor and aromas profile include small red fruits like blackberries, plums, and black cherries with spice notes of pepper, cedar and menthol, and notes of fresh tanned leather and wood smoke from aging in Minnesota-grown oak barrels. In the mouth, the wine is rich, full-bodied, and, fulfilling! It has acid and tannin in balanced measure and can be enjoyed by itself or with hearty and rich fare like wild game, lamb, duck, roasted meats and vegetables, BBQ grilled cuisine or a Black Angus burger.
