2014 Four Oak Red
The 2014 Four Oak Red is a new wine for Chankaska. When the winemakers were working on the 2014 Creekside Red, we made a blend that was far better than any other of our trial blends. However, it would only make 150 cases so we couldn’t make it into our Creekside blend. We kept 6 barrels aside and allowed it to age for another 5 months. We combine the best of several appellations in California: Napa Valley, Lake County and Lodi.
Our Winemaker goes to the Napa Valley every year to source the best fruit for the blend. The Four Oak Red is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Merlot. The lots were fermented and then blended in August of 2015 and sent back to the barrel for another 5 months. The Four Oak Red was Cross Flow Filtered before going into the bottle. It is a wine that tastes great right out of the bottle but will continue to age for another 8 to 10 years.
This rich wine shows obvious notes of dark fruit with sweet oak tannins. The Petite Sirah gives it a dark berry component while the Sangiovese gives it the acidity it needs for long life in the bottle. It would make an ideal pairing with a Bacon-Wrapped Filet Mignon from Schmidt’s Meat Market! Enjoy!
