SILVER MEDAL 2013 FINGER LAKES INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION
Our first Riesling from 2011 was a big hit in our tasting room and sold out in a very short while, which, in the end, is the point of running a winery right? Nonetheless, we knew we had to make more of it, and my hope was that it could be even better than before, which I am happy to say, it IS!
Sourcing the fruit from the same region as last year, Washington State’s Yakima Valley, ensured that the wine would be of similar quality and character. The 2012 vintage, happily, was much better than the previous year, and this wine shows this increased quality in deeper flavors and increased complexity.
Aromas are similar to the 2011 with hints of tea and ginger, with lemon zest, melon and cinnamon spices delicately unveiling as the wine “opens” in the glass. In the mouth the wine is simply “fun” to drink, with clean fruit flavors and a delicious balance of sweetness and acidity. Though absolutely fabulous to sip all on its own, the wine should pair very well with spicy Asian cuisine: Indian, Thai, or Vietnamese, as well with light brunch fair, sweet crepes, salads and fruit salads.
