2013 KASOTA ROSE

This is the third year we have been making the Kasota Rose, and it continues to be one of most popular offerings. It is very fruity and slightly sweet, and served chilled it is simply a fun wine to drink; juicy, fresh, crisp and bright. Made from Minnesota-grown grapes, the wine is a blend of Frontenac Gris and Frontenac.

The easiest way to describe this wine is that it is “fruit salad in a glass”, flavors and aromas of watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple, orange and maraschino cherry predominate, while suggestions of other fruits work along the edges. As the wine opens in the glass, there are notes of marshmallow, cotton candy, vanilla and licorice.

Served by itself, it is a wonderful sipper, but it also can be paired with delicate soft cheeses, mellow and creamy blue cheeses, fruit and nut crepes and salads. Fruit accented fish and fowl recipes will also work well; chicken with apricots, or salmon and cranberries come to mind.

2012 KASOTA ROSE

RETIRED

SILVER MEDAL 2013 COLD CLIMATE WINE COMPETITION, MINNESOTA

The 2012 “Kasota Rose” Minnesota rose wine blend is a delightful follow-up to the first 2011 version. While still utilizing varying amounts of Frontenac and Frontenac Gris, this version features a dollop of Le Crescent added to the blend.

In the nose the wine literally explodes with fruit aromas so numerous and varied I simply say “fruit salad”; Strawberry, peach, raspberry, orange, pineapple, maraschino cherry, cantaloupe, and ripe apple. It has a certain “perfumey” or floral edge as well, with subtle notes of vanilla and cotton candy.

On the palate, the wine is incredibly intense, concentrated, rich, and quite bold for a rose wine. The fruit flavors in the nose are deeply layered in the mouth, coating the tongue with pure fruit essences, and providing a long and complex finish,…. This wine is a mouth-full!  Finished on the sweeter side, it is wonderful by itself, or in combination with fruit-accented lighter meat dishes and young mild blue cheeses.
